How Ridgeline Roofing Co. of California Was Born in California
It was a Tuesday in March, 2010. We were standing on a roof in Woodland Hills, subcontracting for a company out of Arizona that had blown into town after the Santa Ana winds tore through. The homeowner, a woman named Mrs. Deluca, had paid $14,000 six months earlier for what the salesman called a “lifetime system.” The shingles were already curling. The valley flashing was holding water like a bathtub. She’d called the company twelve times. The number was disconnected.
We fixed it that afternoon with materials we bought ourselves from the old Boral yard on Van Nuys Boulevard. Charged her cost plus a day’s labor. She cried on her porch. Not because we saved her money, but because someone finally showed up and told her the truth about what was wrong.
That night we sat in our truck outside the supply house and wrote three sentences on the back of an invoice: No storm chasing. No scary speeches. No disappearing when something fails. Ridgeline Roofing Co. of California started the next morning with those three sentences and a borrowed ladder. We’re still running on them.
Our Founder’s Personal Connection to the Roofing Trade
We didn’t choose roofing. It chose us, the way honest work tends to do when you’re young and hungry and don’t have better options.
Our uncle ran a small crew in Hayward, back when the Bay still smelled like the canneries and the Nimitz was two lanes each way. Summer of 1998, he pulled us out of a warehouse job loading produce at 4 a.m. and handed us a tear-off bar. First day, we stripped three layers of asbestos tile off a bungalow near Santa Clara Avenue. The dust was gray and smelled like old chalk. Our hands blistered through work gloves by noon. Uncle didn’t say much. Just pointed at the rafters and said, “See how that ridge line dips? That’s where someone took a shortcut in ’72. You’re gonna learn to spot that before you step on it.”
He was right. We learned. The feel of proper sheathing under your boots versus the spongy give of rot. The smell of hot asphalt in July versus the clean mineral scent of a new Owens Corning shingle bundle. The particular silence of a valley done wrong, where water sits and waits.
Ten years became more than that. The work became something we couldn’t not do. There’s a moment on every job, usually late morning when the sun’s hitting the slope just right, where you step back and see the lines true. Ridge to eave, everything square. It’s the same satisfaction every time. Not excitement. Certainty.
If we weren’t doing this, we’d probably be building furniture in a garage somewhere. Something with joinery that outlasts the maker. The impulse is the same. Make it solid. Make it honest. Let it stand.
What gets us out of bed is the opposite of what drives most contractors. Not the next job. The last one. The callback we didn’t get because the flashing held. The phone that doesn’t ring because the underlayment did its job through a February storm. We’re in this for the absence of problems, which is a strange thing to build a life around, but here we are.
Meet Our Team - The Person Behind Every Job
We’re the team. That’s not marketing speak. Ridgeline Roofing Co. of California is owned and operated by us, and when you call, you’re talking to the person who’ll be on your roof.
We’ve been state-licensed and carrying our own insurance since day one. Trained on GAF and CertainTeed systems, certified in proper ventilation design, and stubborn enough to climb back up when something doesn’t look right from the ground. We don’t send salesmen. We don’t send kids with a clipboard and a commission sheet. We show up, we walk your roof with our own boots, and we tell you what we see.
Off the roof, we rebuild vintage motorcycles badly and cook for the church supper in Pasadena every third Sunday. The hobby matters because it keeps us patient. You can’t rush a carburetor adjustment or a roux. You can’t rush a ridge cap either.
Our commitment to you is personal. If we wouldn’t put it on our mother’s house in Thousand Oaks, we won’t put it on yours.
Our Promise to California Homeowners
We run on K.E.Y.S. It’s not a poster in our office. It’s how we decide things when no one’s watching.
Krafted right means our journeymen install every starter strip and every piece of step flashing by hand. We don’t use nail guns on steep slopes. We’ve seen too many blown-off shingles in Northridge from guns set too deep or too shallow.
Every time means the 400th inspection gets the same flashlight-under-the-eave scrutiny as the first. We photograph everything. You get the photos, not a scary speech.
Your home first means we tarp your roses before we haul tear-off. We run magnets through your driveway twice. We don’t play music you didn’t ask for.
Standing behind it means The Keystone Standard: 90 days, in writing, no arguing. If it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork, no runaround. Named for the ridge - the line where a roof proves itself, and where we prove ourselves to you.
A square deal. No surprises on the bill. We’ll be there when we say.

These aren’t decorations. A homeowner in California is inviting someone onto their property, into their attic, around their family. State licensing means we’ve met California’s examination and bonding requirements, not just filled out a form. Insurance means if someone gets hurt or something goes wrong, you’re not holding the bag. Our local track record means you can find us tomorrow at the same number, the same yard, the same church supper. We’ve been burned too. We know what it costs to hire someone who disappears.
Rooted in California
We’re not a truck with an out-of-state plate chasing hail. We’re here when the Santa Anas blow and when they don’t.
We’ve sponsored the youth baseball banner in Santa Clarita, replaced the fellowship hall roof at the church on Walnut in Pasadena, and trained two apprentices through the journeyman program who now run their own crews in Palmdale and Hayward. We buy our materials from the same California suppliers we’ve used since 2010. We know which neighborhoods in Northridge still have the original ’71 shake roofs, and which streets in Woodland Hills bake their south-facing slopes hard enough to cook standard shingles in fourteen years.
We plan to be here in thirty years. We act like it.
